Stef is a character who made her debut at the end of Season Eight during the series finale, "A Regular Epic Final Battle". She is Mordecai’s wife and the mother of their three children (two sons and one daughter).
Appearance
Stef is an anthropomorphic bat woman. She has light mauve skin, long pointy ears, a dark mauve nose, visible fangs that stick out of her mouth, and reddish-brown hair.
When Stef meets Mordecai, her hair is longer and is styled so that it partially covers the left side of her face, and she is wearing a black choker with spikes on it, and a dark mauve top over some sort of lacey black top.
At the 25-year park reunion, her hair is short, and she is wearing a long-sleeved dark mauve top with white jeans, red flip flops, a key necklace, and a big sunhat. She also has bags under her eyes.
Personality
Initially, little was known about her except that she's an artist. She loves Mordecai enough to marry him and have kids with him, a relationship that was likely influenced by their shared talent and love for art. During the park reunion, she's seen chatting with Eileen, showing that she's friendly and sociable. In the “25 years later” comic, her personality is more fleshed out; she is shown to usually be straightforward and polite. She also teases Mordecai at times regarding his shortcomings (albeit in an endearing fashion). When she sees her younger husband whilst he and Rigby were trying to make Viceroy Albreich’s daughter into a better person, she is also shown to be feisty as well, as she was worried about Mordecai and their children, and was angry at Mordecai for not telling her about the situation. She has also shown “mother bear” tendencies, in that when Mordecai, Rigby, Eileen and Stef were trapped in the “Please Benson” game, she repeatedly reminded everyone that the Mordecai and Rigby’s respective children were missing. When Stef meets Margaret, who retains her youth, Stef is visibly jealous, and quite annoyed that Mordecai never told her about the latter, also showing that she does not care very much for having secrets kept from her. Ultimately, she does warm up to her, having absorbed her nice personality.
History
Stef is shown during the montage at the end of the series finale. She does not have any speaking lines.
Several years after the Park returned to Earth, Mordecai becomes a successful artist. He and Stef met while they were both showing off their respective artwork at an art gallery. While they were signing autographs, they bumped into each other and gazed into each other's eyes. They eventually got married and had 3 children: 2 sons and 1 daughter, who are all blue jay and bat hybrids.
She attended the 25 Year Park Reunion with Mordecai and her children. She was seen socializing with Eileen while her husband reconnects with Rigby and her teenage children occupy themselves on their devices. After everyone in the park came together for a group picture, she continued to talk with Eileen into the evening.
Trivia
- During an AMA on Reddit with Matt Price and Calvin Wong, Matt confirms that they never really came up with a name for her. Matt gave her the name "Stef" because "JG loves Goonies [sic] so I'm going to say her name is Stef".[1]
- Her name came from Stephanie "Stef" Steinbrenner from "The Goonies".
- Matt Price, the head writer, explained why Mordecai ended up with Stef instead of Margaret or CJ:
- "We felt like the Margaret / CJ story was complete, and they were both on their own path already. We also felt like Mordecai had moved on in his life. He finally left the park to pursue art, and we thought it'd be cool if he met someone while doing that. But we love Margaret and C.J., and we're sure that they're happy without Mordecai! He was too wishy-washy with them!!"[2]
- Matt also said he didn’t remember any specific reason why Stef was a bat, probably just because bats are cool and Mordecai would want to be with a cool bat girl.[3]
- Owen Dennis stated that he appreciated the show's approach to showing relationships, as he was never a fan of media aimed at kids having characters end up with their first love, when in reality dating can be complicated and messy, and can either end amicably or with no closure at all. He noted that while there’s not much known about Stef, she is into art like Mordecai, which is a deep seated passion, and she must like him enough to wanna marry and have three kids with him, and the two seem happy and peaceful with one another.
